11 NAACP Scholarship Programs for You

As part of its Inspire Initiatives program, NAACP scholarships are awarded to outstanding and qualified Black students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees each year. It advances efforts to ensure equity in educational opportunity that prepares students for success in school, work, and life through the generosity of donors.

The number of our scholarships varies according to award, academic interests, and age. NAACP is pleased to offer financial opportunities and recognition to assist with collegiate and post-educational endeavours, whether you are a graduating high school senior or early in your professional career. Please review the eligibility requirements and deadlines for individual scholarships.

Criteria for NAACP Scholarship Programs

  • Become an NAACP member. If you are not a member of the NAACP, you should become one right away.
  • Be an African American or someone of colour.
  • Be enrolled full-time or accepted to an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • For applicable scholarships, you must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate student, or graduate student.
  • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Where applicable, demonstrate an interest in a relevant field of study. See the scholarship you’re applying for more information.

The following are the 11 NAACP Scholarship Programs with details for you;

1. Agnes Jones Jackson NAACP Scholarship

The Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship is one of several funding opportunities for Black students available through the NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. The Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship was established in memory of the late Agnes Jones Jackson, a long-time NAACP member from the San Francisco branch. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

2. ‘All American: Homecoming’ Grand Slam HBCU Scholarship

The ‘All American: Homecoming’ Grand Slam HBCU Scholarship is made possible by Warner Bros. Television Group and is one of many funding opportunities available to Black students and students of colour interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry through the NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. This scholarship is not renewable.

3. Building Beautiful Futures Scholarship

Dark and Lovely, a Black hair-care business, is sponsoring the Building Beautiful Futures Scholarship. This scholarship is for women between the ages of 18 and 25 who are pursuing a four-year degree in communication, marketing, finance, business, or science.

4. Empowering a Better Tomorrow Scholarship

The Empowering a Better Tomorrow Scholarship, powered by Walmart, is designed to help create a path for those who want to further their education as they reintegrate into society. This scholarship will be available to those who have been formerly incarcerated or who have recently been convicted and completed their sentence. Individuals who demonstrate qualities of leadership, commitment to change, and a desire to give back to their community will be considered for this scholarship. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

5. Hubertus W. V. Willems NAACP Scholarship

This fellowship is awarded annually to men studying engineering, chemistry, physics, or mathematics. The selected applicants receive a $3,000 scholarship, however it is not renewable. However, one qualifying condition differs from the others: undergraduate students must have a 2.5 GPA or better rather than a 3.0 GPA. The Hubertus W. V. Willems Scholarship is available to Black male students interested in pursuing a career in engineering, chemistry, physics, and/or mathematical sciences. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

6. James Weldon Johnson Scholarship

The James Weldon Johnson Scholarship, powered by Phi Beta Sigma, is for Black students and available through the NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. The James Weldon Johnson Scholarship honours the late James Weldon Johnson, a long-time NAACP member who served as the NAACP’s Executive Director from 1920 to 1930. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

7. Katherine McIntyre NAACP Scholarship

The Katherine McIntyre Scholarship is one of several funding opportunities for Black students available through the NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. This NAACP scholarship is named after Katherine McIntyre and is awarded annually to commemorate her life. The grant provides $3,000 to students studying in any field. It is not renewable. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

8. Creative Sole Scholarship

The Creative Sole Scholarship sponsored by Vans is given out annually to students majoring in creative fields such as art, architecture, English, journalism, music, communications, design, marketing, and photography. We will award $5,000 in scholarships that recipients can renew for four years if they have a GPA of 2.7 or higher.

9. NAACP x Society Awards Scholarship

The NAACP x Society Awards Scholarship is given to students who want to work in the visual/performing arts, such as film, theatre, fashion, photography, graphic design, dance, music, journalism, and mass communications. We will award three $8,000 scholarships to recipients with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

10. Uplift Scholarship

The Uplift Scholarship is one of many funding opportunities for Black students available through the NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. We provide scholarships to outstanding and qualified undergraduate students. This is a one-time scholarship opportunity that cannot be renewed.

11. Write Her Future Scholarship

One of the many financial aid options offered to Black students and students of colour by the NAACP Inspire Initiatives is the Write Her Future Scholarship powered by LancĂ´me. The target audience for this scholarship is female undergraduate students of colour and Black descent who identify as female. This scholarship opportunity is not renewable.
