Founders’ Award by the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation
The Founders’ Award provides financial assistance to students who have received a Canadian Scholarship Trust RESP and are pursuing postgraduate study. All Canadian post-secondary programs, from university degrees to apprenticeships, are eligible for these awards.
The funds can be used to pay for tuition as well as related expenses such as books, supplies, and living expenses. The Founders’ Award presents ten $10,000 to awardee yearly.

This Founders’ Award is for Canadian students that have completed their post-secondary education in Canada and intend to further their studies in Canada.

Eligibility for Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Founders’ Award
To proceed with your application for the Founders’ Award, you must confirm the following statements:
- I am a CST beneficiary, and I have received all of my Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan Education Assistance Payments.
- I am a graduate of an eligible postsecondary institution (degree or diploma)
- I am enrolled or will be enrolled in another diploma/degree program at an accredited post-secondary school in Canada
- I have never earned this honour before (formerly known as the Canadian Scholarship Trust Graduate Award)
- I have a financial necessity that will make it tough for me to complete my studies.
Requirements to Apply for Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Founders’ Award
The following are the required documents to apply for the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Founders’ Award.
- A personal statement outlining the applicant’s financial situation
- One brief essay question
- Transcript from the most recent postsecondary educational program
- One letter of recommendation* written to the CST Foundation
- When available, an admission decision letter from an approved post-secondary institution indicating acceptance to the school for the upcoming academic year.
Kindly note that your letter must be written by someone who knows you and can speak well of your character and ability but is not related to you (i.e. not a family member).
The reference letter must:
- Be sent to the CST Foundation.
- Describe how the referee knows you and how long he or she has known you.
- Explain why the referee believes you are a strong contender for the Founders’ Award (using character traits, values, situations, and/or personal qualities as examples). We are especially interested in assisting students that demonstrate resiliency, community service, and a commitment to greatness.
- Provide the referee’s contact information.
How to Apply for Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Founders’ Award
Applications for the Founders’ Award will be accepted beginning in April and will be due in early May. The results are announced by the end of June, and bursaries are distributed throughout the summer. Here is a timeline for 2024 for your convenience.

Scholarship Award
