Umeå University PhD Scholarship for International Students are now available for students interested in studying in Sweden. The Ume University Postgraduate Scholarships provide full tuition fee waivers as well as a $37,108 annual stipend based on the established salary level for doctoral students. Unlike in many other countries, you can work while studying in Sweden if you have a residence permit (student visa). Furthermore, the cost of living is low.

Eligibility for the Umeå University PhD Scholarship
To be considered for the Umeå University PhD Scholarship, you must do the following:
- have completed at least 240 credits of course requirements, with at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level, or have an equivalent education from another country, or equivalent qualifications
- be fluent in English (proficient user), both verbally and in writing
- fulfil the university’s PhD requirements at the time of admission to postgraduate education

- Copies of relevant degree diplomas and certificates, certified.
- A copy of your Master’s thesis as well as any other publications (if any).

- A cover letter outlining your qualifications, research interests, and motivation for applying, as well as your contact information (max. 2 pages)
- A graded list of university courses. It should be noted that the grading system should be briefly explained to international applicants.

Scholarship Award
The employment is expected to result in a doctoral degree, and the doctoral student’s main assignment is thus to be active in research, study doctoral courses, and possibly participate in undergraduate course teaching.
Full-time employment is limited to four years, with the possibility of extending to five years if teaching or other departmental work is performed. The salary ($37,108 annual stipends based on the established salary level for doctoral students) is fixed based on the established salary level for doctoral students at Ume University’s Faculty of Science and Technology.
