UTRGV scholarships are available to high-achieving students who have graduated from high school or college. Scholarships are educational monies that do not compel students to repay them and are provided on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are depleted. Apply as soon as possible to complete your educational path without financial worry.
The UTRGV scholarships, which are available for undergraduate and graduate courses, provide opportunities for many students to further their education. Criteria for University of Texas Rio Grande Valley UTRGV Scholarship
To be eligible for the scholarships, candidates must complete the following requirements:
- Students must be enrolled in one of UTRGV’s undergraduate or graduate programs.
- Students should keep up their academic performance.

Deadline for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley UTRGV Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis until all funds are depleted. Admissions applications must be filed on or before December 1, 2024. Applications that are late or incomplete will be disqualified.
Application Process for the UTRGV Scholarship
There is no separate application process required for students to be eligible for the scholarships. Scholarships will be offered on a competitive basis. The sooner applicants apply, the greater the scholarships will be. Students are also encouraged to complete the FAFSA in order to be evaluated for the maximum benefits.
Scholarship Reward
The following are the advantages of the scholarships:
- UTRGV Scholars Program: A four-year award of up to $20,000 is available.
- UTRGV Housing Scholarship: Up to $12,000 per year for four years.
- Entering Freshman Gateway: A one-time grant of up to $3,000 is available.
About the Sponsor
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is a public research university with various campuses in the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas and is the University of Texas System’s southernmost member. The Texas Legislature established the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in 2013 following the merger of the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College and the University of Texas-Pan American.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley enrolled 29,619 students in the fall of 2019, making it the ninth-largest university in Texas and the fourth-largest (student enrollment) academic institution in The University of Texas system. In 2018, UTRGV was also one of the largest institutions in the United States with a majority Hispanic student population, with 89.2% of its students being Hispanic, almost all Mexican Americans. In 2020, it was designated as “R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity.”

Furthermore, UTRGV is one level below the highest categorization of Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity (R1), often known as Carnegie Tier One. “This new classification is yet another illustration of how UTRGV’s profile and reputation are growing,” stated president Guy Bailey.
The UTRGV Tuition Advantage grant is a program meant to cover tuition and mandatory fees by first utilizing federal and state aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant and the Texas Grant, as well as scholarships and other gift aid. Tuition Advantage will cover any leftover tuition and obligatory fees not covered by these programs.
Beginning in the fall of 2022, the program will pay for tuition and obligatory fees for qualifying students with a family income of $100,000 or less and unmet financial needs. Tuition Advantage’s $100,000 income requirement is the highest of any free-tuition program in the state and, according to reports, the most in the country.
