TOP TEACHING METHODS FOR 2021

Teachers need new ways to improve their teaching and help their students improve their learning in an era when student behaviors are constantly changing and the world at large is changing dramatically in terms of technologies and learning skills.

Here are recent teaching method that are has proven to be effective.


1. PROJECT-BASED METHOD

Project-based learning is a method of instruction in which students actively participate in real-world projects.

‘’Students learn more when they engage in practical life challenges with others”.

Students are supposed to “learn by doing,” with teachers acting as hands-on facilitators.

With the thought that we are no longer in the era where students adhere simply to direct transformation of information or using the scoring system to transfer knowledge, it is important to use methods that will enhance their learning.

With the project base method, Students are expected to investigate and respond to a genuine, engaging, and complex question or issue with strategies that will help them to develop critical thinking, learn fast, creativity, collaboration, and communication abilities, which are highly valued by employers in the twenty-first century.

Here are ways you can use project-base method:

  • Divide the students into four or five classes.
  • Encourage them to come up with project ideas.
  • Ask the class for suggestions and determine which one they will concentrate on.
  • Appoint students to conduct joint research on the subject of their choice.
  • After that, ask them to make a digital presentation so they can get some experience with design and technology.
  • Ask students to show their project to the rest of the class, and promote input and discussion.


2. EXPERIENTIAL METHOD


The internet has caused many students to become distracted during class, and as a result, disengagement is on the rise. Teachers frequently find them on their phones, zoning out or talking to friends. However, a new approach is available to deal with this problem: EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

This learning method, which is now widely used in schools around the world, involves immersing students in real-world situations that attempt to gain knowledge and skills through experience.  It provides first-hand experiences in which they must practice planning, decision-making, teamwork, and other skills.

Here are list of experiential learning activities that you should consider.

  • Grid of Pro and Con.

The Pro and Con Grid involves students developing a list of advantages and disadvantages about a relevant issue related to your lesson, allowing them to see a topic from various perspectives and developing analytical and evaluation skills.

How to use grid Pro and Con.

  • Select a clear topic in the lesson that will serve as an acceptable subject for developing a list of benefits and drawbacks after students have completed an assignment or lesson plan suitable for discussion and debate.
  • Split the students into groups and assign a number of advantages and disadvantages to each group. Allow students a few minutes to analyze and write down their findings.
  • Also during activity’s remaining time, have each group go through their list. Draw attention to similar advantages and disadvantages, and count the number of times they appear in different communities to emphasize their importance.

Cross-age Tutoring

Cross-age tutoring is a method of peer learning in which one student instructs another on content in which the first is an expert and the second is a beginner.

The significance of this method is that it allows the tutor, who is still a student, to receive feedback in order to evaluate their own learning and to improve and put the knowledge and skills they’ve been learning into practice.

How to use cross-age tutoring

  • 1. Determine whether your student would serve as a tutor or a tutee.
  • .Select a discussion subject or lesson plan for the students.
  • Explain to all students that the exercise is an interactive dialogue in which both parties are encouraged to ask questions.
  • Follow up with the students to address their concerns and learn more about the procedure.

Playing a role

 Have students act out various scenarios. Students can learn how various attitudes and activities impact results by using an imaginary situation.

Field work

 Students are asked to go out and collect data. This could be done online through questionnaires and surveys, which can then be presented to the class.

The benefit of this approach is that it allows students to put what they’ve learned into practice while also allowing them to make new connections and strengthen what they’ve learned by putting it into practice in a fun and in an engaging way.

3. GAMIFICATION METHOD

Incorporating game mechanics and structure into our world has proven to be an effective teaching tool, and the Ed-tech industry has recently produced videogames that have shaped learning in the classroom,

and has created different popular educational platforms which is also specialized for students in different courses.

How to use gamification method:

  • Incorporate educational video games into your lesson plans.

Students can fail, overcome, and persevere when they use games. Students are given a sense of responsibility in game play, they have control over the actions they take, and the more entity they have, the better they perform.

Students used computers and video games to practice math and language skills.

Here are a few game platforms to consider:

  • Big Brain University
  • The Brain Quest.
  • Increase your brain’s age.
  •   Learn science.
  • Math blaster, and so on.

4. THINKING BASED LEARNING METHOD

Without a doubt, the older educational system used approaches that reduced the need for practical thought and emphasized a more theoretical and limited approach to learning.

Thinking-based learning has been shown to be far more effective and versatile than traditional learning, as well as a success in a variety of ways.

In a thought-based learning method, students are asked a series of questions to answer that will either test their memory or, in the case of the design thinking process, encourage them to focus more on the analytical and logical approach to problem solving. The solutions will be realistic, one-of-a-kind, tailored to the situation, and unlike anything else seen before.

5. DESIGN THINKING

 The purpose of design thinking is to promote innovative ideas and creative activities in the minds of students. This will instill in them a renewed desire to engage in the curriculum and perform to the best of their abilities.

Teachers who are about to implement modern teaching methods can use the design thinking approach to encourage students to come up with innovative ideas. They can be given a specific set of questions or problems that stimulate their creative thinking and force them to come up with some successful innovative solutions.
