The program, which was founded by Jay-Z and his philanthropist mother, Gloria, focuses on assisting low-income students who reside in disadvantaged communities around urban America.

The Shawn Carter Foundation’s purpose is to assist those enduring socioeconomic problems in furthering their education at postsecondary institutions. Shawn Carter and his mother, Gloria Carter, founded the Shawn Carter Foundation in 2003 as a public charity (“Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund”). Funds raised by the Foundation have funded projects to empower kids and communities in need since its establishment, including the Foundation’s signature scholarship fund, yearly college tours, study abroad opportunities, counselling initiatives, and giveback programs.
