One of the first medical schools in the country was New York Medical College, which was established in 1860. In 2011, it joined the Touro College and University System, maintaining its standing as a diverse, forward-thinking medical institution.

One of the first medical schools to enroll and graduate a diverse student body—including women and people of color—was NYMC.

In its more than a century and a half of existence, the institution, which is now situated in Valhalla, New York, has expanded in both size and reputation, creating new opportunities for students and the local community.

Today, it grants the MD, MD/MPH, and MD/PhD degrees. According to U.S. News and World Report, it is currently ranked $94–122 in research and primary care.

There are many faculty members at New York Medical College who are actively engaged in clinical practice, research, community service, public health, education, and administration.

The purpose of New York Medical College’s early exposure to community-based primary care practice is to instill fundamental medical principles in these future physicians from the very beginning of their careers.

Through its exchange programs with four overseas medical schools in Japan, Korea, Hungary, and Israel, NYMC offers students the chance to learn about and practice worldwide health in addition to its emphasis on teaching students about patients in their own community.

Students have the chance to finish their electives at these diverse foreign locations, which are necessary for graduation.
