The Alberta government established and funds the Jason Lang scholarship through Alberta Advanced Education.
It is open to Canadian freshmen undergraduates or post-secondary students who want to continue their education at any Canadian university.
The Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund awards the money to successful applicants, while the University of Alberta selects the most deserving applicants.
Because of the large number of applicants each year, the Jason Lang scholarship award is highly competitive. As a result, not all eligible applications will be chosen.

Level/Field of Study
The Jason Lang Scholarship program recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of Alberta post-secondary students who are continuing full-time studies and rewards such efforts by giving scholarship awards to students, thereby encouraging them to continue in their undergraduate or professional program of study. Eligibility for Jason Lang Scholarship
Before applying, you must complete the following requirements and furnish the documentation listed below.
- You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in order to apply.
- You, your parents, or your spouse must have lived in Alberta for a minimum of 12 months before beginning your post-secondary studies.
- A minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale on at least 80% of a full-normal course load the previous term is required.
- You must be a full-time undergraduate student in your second year at a publicly financed post-secondary institution in Alberta.
- If you have previously received the Louise Mckinney scholarship, you are ineligible for this one.
- You are not enrolled in a certificate program lasting one year.
- You are no longer eligible for this scholarship after winning it three times.
- You must supply a copy of your SIN (Social Insurance Number) card as well as a copy of your Verification of Status document (VOS).
- Both an Alberta Student Number (ASN) and a Social Insurance Number (SIN) are required.
- If you are enrolled in Graduate Studies or Open Studies, you are ineligible for this program.
Also Note that:
- Applicants enrolled in Graduate or Open Studies are not eligible to apply for this award.
- For eligibility, University of Calgary courses cannot be paired with courses completed at another university; term courses for the spring or summer are not considered.
- Applicants who attended another post-secondary university last year and are transferring to the University of Calgary in the 2022 academic year must contact their prior post-secondary institution to find out if they are eligible for the Jason Lang Scholarship this year.
Students are ineligible for a Jason Lang Scholarship if they:
- They are taking a one-year certificate program.
- If their postsecondary studies are disrupted for more than one semester in the next academic year, they will be expelled.
- They have received a Louise McKinney Scholarship for the same time of the study, or
- They have received a maximum of three Jason Lang Scholarships in their lifetime.
Nominees for the Jason Lang scholarship must be enrolled in a public post-secondary school in Alberta (this includes technical institutes, publicly-funded colleges, universities and private colleges accredited to grant degrees).
Deadline for Jason Lang Scholarship
The Jason Lang Scholarship deadline for fall application is September and the deadline for winter application is January.
How to Apply for Jason Lang Scholarship
- Download the application form from the scholarship’s official website by clicking here. You can also print the application form from bear tracks.
- Print the form and fill in all of the required information, such as your name, citizenship, address, post-secondary institution enrollment information, and other personal information.
- Fill in the blanks with your signature.
- Go over your application and make sure all of the info you’ve entered is correct.
- Submit the printed application form to your school’s Student Awards Office.
Selection Process
If all goes as planned, the Jason Lang scholarship awardees should get their prize within 30 days of applying. The money should arrive in December for the autumn term and March for the winter quarter.
If you haven’t received payment after 30 or 35 days, you can contact the scholarship board. However, before you get too excited, be sure you’re one of the winners.
You should monitor your email address to find out the progress of your application because you will receive letters from the scholarship committee.
You can also check your application status in your Student Centre by going to the ‘Finance’ module. However, before you can use this approach, you must first register a myUofC account.
Applicants must verify that their address in Bear Tracks is up to date in order for their cheque to be mailed to the correct address.
If an applicant’s place of residence changes after their nomination has been forwarded, they should notify Alberta Student Aid.
Scholarship Award
Each Jason Lang scholarship winner is eligible for a $1,000 award, which is sufficient to cover some of your school fees and other connected expenditures.
Unfortunately, this financial help program is only available to Canadian citizens. Permanent residents can also apply for the scholarship.
