The Generation Google Scholarship was created to support future computer scientists in their pursuit of technological leadership. The chosen students will earn 5,000 CAD or 10,000 USD, depending on where they are studying (for those studying in Canada). Current high school seniors starting their first year of college will be required to attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) in the summer as a condition of receiving the scholarship. The Google Scholars’ Retreat will be open to current undergraduate or graduate students.

Eligibility for Generation Google Scholarship
Students that meet all the requirements can apply for the program. Google encourages students that identify with historically underrepresented groups in the technology sector, such as women, Black and African American, Hispanic and Latinx, American Indian, and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, to apply. It is not necessary for applicants to be enrolled in an Associate, Bachelor, Master’s, or PhD degree right now in order to apply. The following Google Scholarships are excluded from the reapplication process: Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming, Google Lime Scholarship, Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship, Generation Google Scholarship, Generation Google Scholarship: for women in gaming, Generation Google Scholarship: for supply chain and fulfilment.
For Current High School Seniors
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Generation Google Scholarship:
- Be a current high school senior to be eligible to apply.
- intend to enrol in or be admitted to a university in the US or Canada as a full-time student.
- aspire to earn a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technological subject
- Show leadership qualities and a love of technology and computer science.
- demonstrate a good track record of academic success
- being a computer science student from a group that is underrepresented (African American, Hispanic, American Indian, Female, or a Person with a Disability)
- Attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) if you can during the summer.
For Current University Students
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Generation Google Scholarship:
- being enrolled in school right now as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- intend to enrol in or be admitted to a university in the US or Canada as a full-time student.
- obtaining a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Show leadership qualities and a love of technology and computer science.
- demonstrate a good track record of academic success.
- being a computer science student from a group that is underrepresented (African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or Female.)
Requirements to Apply for Generation Google Scholarship
You will be required to submit an online application that asks you to include:
- Background data in general (e.g. contact information and details about your current and intended universities)
- details on the family and household
- Resume/CV
- Academic records from your previous and present institutions, if you are currently enrolled (if you have earned a prior degree)
- Responses to three short answer essay
- The overall quality of the applicants’ essays and other application materials will be taken into consideration when choosing the winners (e.g. university students compared to other university students).
Scholarship Award
The successful students will earn 10,000 USD or 5,000 CAD depending on where they are studying. 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada).
Terms
The Generation Google Scholarship award must be used to pay for the student’s primary university tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other necessities for their classes. Recipients of scholarships must enrol full-time during the designated academic year. Before the winners are chosen, enrollment will be checked, and all scholarship payments will be provided to the winners immediately to be applied to tuition and other educational costs.
These scholarship award terms and conditions must be signed by a parent or legal guardian for applicants who are under 18 at the time of acceptance. Any scholar who ceases to satisfy the eligibility conditions will have their award withheld, and any scholar who fails to continue to fulfil the eligibility standards will have their award revoked.
Google will provide instructions on how to accept the award to the chosen recipients. Recipients will not be eligible to receive the award if these requirements are not met by the deadline. On a case-by-case basis, as assessed by Google, recipients may defer their award for up to one (1) year from the time of the initially anticipated payment. The Google scholarship program is not open to Google employees. Those who are
- Citizens of nations under embargo,
- typically residing in nations under embargo,
- are forbidden from applying for this scholarship under the relevant export controls and sanctions policies.
