The first method is to decide the number’s initial format before converting it to a percentage.
The decimal or fraction format of the number to be converted to a percentage may be used.
0.75 is an example of a decimal number, which may be the measured ratio of the values you’re comparing, while 5/20 is an example of a fraction. The next mathematical process to be performed on the number will be determined by the initial format
Another option is to use a mathematical formula to translate the number to a percentage.
If the number to be converted to a percentage is a decimal number like 0.57, you may not need to do anything to it before you go to the next step. However, if it is a fraction like 3/20, you should first divide the numerator (3 in this case) by the denominator (20 in this case) to get a decimal number.
Lastly, you can multiply the outcome of the mathematical procedure by 100.
If you need to convert a decimal number, such as 0.57, to a percentage, simply multiply it by 100. That is, 0.57 multiplied by 100 equals 57. As a result, 0.57 as a percentage equals 57 percent. 0.03 x 100 = 3 percent or 3 percent is another example of translating a decimal to a percentage.
If you need to convert 3/20 to a percentage, divide it by 20 and you’ll get 0.15. Then multiply 0.15 by 100 to get 15% (or 15%).
Another example is converting 5/10 to a percentage, which is done by dividing 5 by 10 = 0.5. Then divide 0.5 by 100. As a result, 0.5 x 100 equals 50%, or 50%.

Remember that 100 percent refers to the whole amount, so 100 percent of any number is simply that number
Remember that 50% equals half, so to find 50% of a number, simply divide it by 2.
Remember that 25% means 1/4 of a number, so divide it by 4 to find 25% of a number:

So if you are asked to give a percentage of a given number for example 50% of 1000 in decimal=50 ÷1000 = 0.05
In fraction all you will need to do is first look for number that can divide both the numerator and denominator (Greatest common factor) which is this case is 50 so basically what we should have do is this:
50 ÷1000=
50 ÷50=1(numerator)
1000 ÷50=20(denominator)
So in fraction your answer is 1/20
Example 2:
If a 40% discount is allowed off the marked price of a bag worth $60.00, find the selling price.
Convert the percentage to a decimal = 40 ÷100=0.4 and multiply the decimal by the original price to get the discount amount = 0.4 X $60=$24
The sale price = full price – discount = $60.00 – $24 = $36.00. Therefore, the sale price is $36.00
