Does Yale University Require Test Scores?
Yale will extend its test-optional admissions policy for an additional year in response to the ongoing disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
All undergraduate applicants for fall 2023 enrollment may apply with or without ACT or SAT scores.
Applicants who have passed one or more ACT or SAT exams should consider including their scores, even if they fall below the middle 50% ranges listed below.
According to Yale’s internal research, ACT and SAT scores significantly predict a student’s undergraduate academic performance.
When students submit scores with their applications, the Yale Admissions Committee considers them in the context of each student’s individual situation and uses them to supplement other academic indicators throughout the application.
The Admissions Committee prioritizes other aspects of the application, such as high school transcripts, recommendation letters, and essays for applicants who do not have test scores.
Competitive candidates, with or without scores, have applications that clearly demonstrate a high level of academic preparedness, a track record of academic success, and genuine intellectual curiosity.
